I was deeply impressed while I was following the journey of ’Momo’. There were some chapters and passages that gave me strong impressions and visions,
and I chose to work with the strongest one which was from chapter six in part two, ‘the men in grey’. The description of the process how the world’s diversity
has destroyed by modernism was quite affecting. What triggered me to work on this elements was the feeling that I had inside me for a long time. I used to
feel being pressured to be fitted in the society, follow the crowd and live as others expect from me, especially as a woman crafter, and often feel confused
about how to keep the faith.
I chose to work with 'automata' to show a crucial idea of this work. Similar-looking people are repeating an endless routine without meaning of life.
No individuality, No face expression either. This work always will question me what is important in my life, remind me not to live like the men in grey.
“The building looked alike, so, of course, did the streets. They grew steadily longer, stretching away to the horizon in dead straight lines and turning the countryside
into a disciplined desert... Everything in them was carefully planned and programmed, down to the last move and the last moment of time. People never seemed
to notice that, by saving time, they were losing something else.” <Momo by Michael Ende, page 68>
